For the past year,Jackie and I had been thinking about a capable vehicle for our trips and explorations down unknown roads and into vast tracts of backcountry. On this trip, it was a small detour for me to visit the Sportsmobile factory in Fresno. So while everybody else enjoyed the Monterey Aquarium, I headed out early for a day at the factory.

Many years ago, Sportsmobile did a pop-top conversion on a venerable VW bus. It all started from there! Now their factories convert Fords and other vehicles.

There's no question a Sportsmobile, either new or used would be perfect for our travels. Having seen the details up close, they are in the running. Now we can continue thinking about what best to do.
Wrapping up in Fresno after a great visit, I headed back to see how the day went at the Aquarium. It was Linda and Hans' first time there! Along Highway 99 there was a slow march of increasing numbers, probably one of the few places you'll see signs like these...
